  • Soot and oil thickening
    Modern Full Protection (10W-30, 15W-40) and Super Defense V4 protect against soot-related oil thickening.
  • Ash in the DPF
    Low-ash Ultra Ultimate Protection V1, Modern Advanced Protection 10W-40 and Full Protection V4 protect the exhaust aftertreatment system.
  • High-temperature deposits
    Modern Advanced Protection, Full Protection V4 and Legend 1300 protect against deposits and ring sticking.
  • Wear at cold start
    Ultra 5W-40 Ultimate Protection V1 gives smooth starts down to -35°C.
  • Acids from sulfur fuel
    The high base reserve (TBN) of Ultra Ultimate Defense and Legend 1300 counters acids from fuel.

Questions before you buy

  • Delvac Ultra are synthetics for the newest, most heavily loaded engines, and Delvac Modern is for engines from the last decade. The spec in the manual decides.

  • One that meets the spec in the manual, e.g. ACEA E6 or E9: Ultra Ultimate Protection, Modern Advanced Protection or Modern Full Protection.

  • Not always. Modern 5W-20 Advanced Protection is only for engines that require MAN M 3977 or Scania LDF-5. Modern Full Protection 10W-30 and 15W-40 are fully backward compatible.

  • Make, model, year and engine, ideally with the VIN. The name of the current oil helps too.

  • The vehicle maker sets the interval. Sample analysis tells you most reliably when to change.
